The dates of summer shows we are attending...

Saturday, 18 February 2012

As we published last time, we take our award winning cider and food shack to a number of steam fair shows through-out the South West region during the summer months of the year.

We enjoy getting out and about with our cider, and of course meeting all of you! We have put together a list of the shows we will be attending this year.  We take both our Cider and Food Shack to all the shows listed, to give you all a little taste of Somerset!

We hope that you can join us.

·      Sedgemoor Vintage Show, 7th - 8th July 2012
·      Langport Steam Rally: 13th -15th July 2012
·      Torbay Steam Fair: 3rd – 5th August 2012
·      The Great Dorset Steam Fair: 29th Aug- 2nd September

We will also be attending The North Somerset Show with our CIDER ONLY, and Priddy Fair with our FOOD SHACK ONLY.

We will be at The Great Dorset Steam Fair 2012, will you?

Friday, 10 February 2012

Many of you may not know but we are regulars and proud to be apart of one of the UK's largest steam fairs in the country, the one and only Great Dorset Steam Fair. It's not just our award winning cider that we take along, we also take our traditional 'Food Shack', serving the show with quality breakfasts, lunches and evening meals, which you can either take away, eat in our lovely marquee restaurant or dine outside in the beautiful sunshine (if you're lucky)!

We also serve, of course, a variety of our Traditional Farmhouse Cider, giving our punters a choice of either a sweet, medium or dry farmhouse. We serve from around midday to about midnight (depending on licences) every night of the show, so you can always rely on us for a cheeky midnight pint or two!

We will be attending the Great Dorset Steam Fair again this year, and you will find us in our usual spot!

We will look forward to seeing you all there!

Butternut squash soup with poached egg persillade and cheddar

Take butternut squash soup to the next level with Glyn Purnell’s delicious recipe.

Ingredients

For the soup
For the persillade
  • small bunch of sage, parsley, chervil and tarragon
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 2 banana shallots, finely chopped

Preparation method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
  2. Sprinkle some salt onto a baking tray and place the butternut squash on top. Roast in the oven for 30 minutes, or until soft. Once cool enough to handle, chop the squash into fine dice, discarding the seeds. Reserve one quarter of the chopped squash for garnish.
  3. Heat a saucepan until hot, add the olive oil then the roasted squash, carrot, shallot, garlic, thyme, bay leaf and sage and fry for 4-5 minutes. Cover with the stock, bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, or until the vegetables have softened.
  4. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Blend in a food processer until smooth and pass the mixture through a fine sieve into a clean saucepan.
  5. Poach the egg yolkss in a pan of simmering water at 65C-70C/150F-160F. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside to drain on kitchen paper.
  6. For the persillade, mix the herbs, garlic and shallots together until well combined.
  7. To serve, place the egg yolks in flat soup bowls. Shave the cheddar with a potato peeler. Place the cheese over the yolk and sprinkle with the persillade. Place the reserved squash around the egg yolk then pour the soup around the edge and serve.
